This man was built for the same
shop as the display cabinet (Suay Design). He is
made almost entirely from old car parts and stands just over 4 metres
high. His feet are made of a car wheel cut in half but the part where the
tyre would go has been filled in with sheet metal and steel rod shoe laces
have also been added. The legs are made from Triumph prop shafts and
Jaguar rear suspension units, some steel tube is also used. The waist (and
bottom of body are Land Rover back plates. Old Escort con rods make the skirt. The body is Morris Minor leaf springs and is
filled with car parts and pipes
to make him look as though he works. He also contains a beaten sheet steel
heart! His shoulders are an Aston Martin inlet manifold. His arms and
fingers are exhaust tubing with a differential bearing as his right
hand middle bit! This arm was built to be beckoning but as he lives
outside near a busy bar it was decided that it would be safer to fit it in
this rather higher raised position.
His left hand holds the shop sign. His head is made from a much modified
and narrowed front of an Austin A35. A sheet steel nose and hair have been
added as well as steel rod eye lashes. The bumper has been cut, narrowed
and re welded into a more smiling shape.
He comes apart at the waist
and the arms also are bolted on to aid transporting The head is separate.
He is firmly attached to the
wall but weighs approximately half a tonne!
The whole thing has been
treated with rust inhibiting primer, spray underseal and then painted in
silver metallic paint.
He has been christened “Baby
Sam”. (I am not sure whether this is a compliment)!
I would be more than happy to
make something similar to suit your requirements. Price would be dictated
by size and complexity of manufacture.
