I love classic cars and would not
dream of cutting the back off a restorable car! This car based
sofa is made from the back of an old car. The one shown is a Mark 2 Ford
Consul. It has a welded steel box
section frame and tube legs. The feet will not dig into or scratch flooring
as they have rounded edged plastic feet. The rain gutters are removed
from the boot and sheet steel is welded in to give sides to the seat.
Chrome and trim are removed whilst work is carried out and all welding
on the outside is ground down and smoothed with body filler. Restoration
of the car is completed as necessary in welded steel which is then carefully
filled and smoothed before painting can take place.
On this sofa, I had the light units re-plated
but due to the metal they are made from being such poor quality I am very
disappointed with the results. Brand new ones can be purchased, however.
This
sofa is painted in red metal flake, but
alternative colours can be requested. An original luxury leather Jaguar car rear
seating is used, making these sofas very comfortable. The leather seating
is finished by a professional upholsterer to ensure it fits properly,
and the back of the sofa is panelled with wood so that it does not have to
be positioned against a wall.
The price would vary depending on the availability of
the car and the work involved. New or re chromed bumpers and light units
could be fitted for a further cost. They are made to fit through a standard
house door!
Car sofas can be made from specific makes and models of car,
classic or otherwise. If you are the owner of a classic car which is sadly
beyond restoration but holds a place in your heart why not get in touch
with a view to my creating a piece of one off and individual furniture
for you from it.
